Why we need a new Union

A new Ohio Union is needed for a variety of reasons. The most pressing issue is that the current building we have does not meet the needs of our students, faculty, and staff. The building design does not offer enough meeting space for student organizations or services to meet the needs of our diverse customers. The current structure is operating with many of the original mechanicals (circa 1950) that do not provide adequate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or plumbing. The building offers limited accessibility for people with disabilities. Finally, the Ohio Union was once a model facility in this country when it opened in 1950. The state of the art facility provided a wide array of social and recreational activities, and was designed to be a gathering place for students. We believe in the idea of a student union, and would like see a new Ohio Union restored to its original glory.
