Alumni Board Members
The Ohio Union & Student Activities Alumni Society is fortunate to have an energetic and diverse group of individuals on our board. Their hard work ensures that the society provides a meaningful experience to all of its members. Below are brief biographies about each of our board members
Christy Kozick - President
Christy received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University in 1997 and 2002 respectively. As a student, she was very involved in many aspects of the Ohio Union, providing leadership to the Student Events Committee, Homecoming parade, and the Ohio Union Council. Christine is a registered dietitian and is currently the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio. Student organizations and working at the Ohio Union made an enormous impact on Christy’s life. She hopes her involvement in the Society will allow her to connect with students and aid them in utilizing all of the valuable programs and resources that OSU and the Union have to offer.
Jon Horn - Vice President
Jon graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. As a student, Jon was involved with Student-Alumni Council, is a re-founding father of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and served as president of Sphinx senior class honorary. He currently works as an Electrical Engineer for Korda/Nemeth Engineering, designing lighting and power systems for new building construction and existing building renovations. Jon is involved with the alumni society because it allows him to stay connected to the Union and fellow Buckeyes.
Megan Collins - Secretary
Megan received her undergraduate degree in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and a minor in Business Marketing. As a student, Megan served as a resident advisor, member of PRSSA, and was the President of OUAB from 2001 – 2002, which shaped her collegiate experience. She is currently the Director of Development for the College of Biological Sciences at The Ohio State University and is responsible for working with alumni and friends of the college on major gift opportunities that support student growth and research. The opportunity to help lead the society is a way for Megan to stay involved and also give back to the current students who are involved with the Ohio Union.
Shay Meyers - Treasurer
Shay received her undergraduate degree in 1979 after serving as a 4-year director of the Ohio and Drake Unions’ films committee. Shay currently works for JP Morgan Chase as a Senior Director of Applications Development where she oversees the complete portfolio of Client Care Service technology programs for Global Treasury Services. As a society officer, Shay is eager to share with students what they can learn from participation in student activities and how it will apply in the business world. She is also committed to helping students frame and present their involvement experiences in resumes and interviews to leverage these valuable skills and accomplishments.
Jarrod Weiss - Communications Director
Jarrod is a 2004 graduate, earning a B.A. in Communication. He spent most of his college life in the Ohio Union as a student employee, two years as President of Block "O", was a re-founding father of the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, and was a member of the BuckeyeThon steering committee. Jarrod works for the Ohio House of Representatives as a Legislative Aide. Jarrod believes that the OUSAAS’s greatest asset is the all-inclusive nature of the organization to bring former student leaders together from all backgrounds within the Ohio Union.
Cathy Clark-Eich - Event Committee Chairperson
Cathy is a three-time graduate from Ohio State; receiving her Bachelors of Science in Clothing and Communications, her Masters degree in Education and Communication, and her Doctoral degree in Counseling and Developmental Psychology. While at Ohio State, Cathy was heavily involved in student activities and student organizations including: Greek Life, University Chorus, Ohio Union Board, as well as serving as an advisor to two student organizations. She is currently a counselor in a private practice. Cathy says that the OUSAAS “has always made me feel welcome when I return for events and through their activities made me feel as though I am a valuable part of the University.”
Frank Lazar - At Large Member
Frank graduated in 1999 with an undergraduate degree in Economics. As a student, he was very involved with the Ohio Union Activities Board where he served as lecture chair and later as president. Frank currently works as Associate Vice-President for Morgan Stanley in Columbus. Frank hopes that the alumni society becomes an organization where students and alumni can work together with the long-term goal of further connecting The Ohio State University community in an innovative and exciting way. He also hopes that the Society will develop a perpetual relationship with OUAB that goes beyond awarding the Wendell Ellenwood Scholarship, where programs can be run that involve both groups in a meaningful way.
Jim Griffin - At Large Member
Jim graduated in 1985 with a degree in Communication. As a student, he was involved in a variety of student organizations including the Ohio-Drake Union Activity Board, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and Sphinx senior class honorary, and he represented his fellow students on various University committees like the University Financial Aid committee. Jim currently works as a marketing specialist in Corporate Market Research for Nationwide Insurance. The Union was a second home to Jim, he says, “The Ohio Union was a central part of my undergraduate days at The Ohio State University. My involvement with OSU administrators and various student organizations all began at the Ohio Union. In addition to being part of ODUA, I studied in the lounges, worked in Food Service under Mr. Gossage, bowled in the basement, watched movies, and spent many hours in the student organization offices.”
Peter Voderberg - At Large Member
Peter graduated in 2003 with an English degree and Psychology minor. While at Ohio State, Peter was involved in the Ohio Union Activities Board and the Ohio Union Council, and he was a part of the USG cabinet. Peter currently is a Legislative Aide for Senator Tim Schaffer where he is responsible for researching and drafting legislation, coordinating with lobbyists, and helping write speeches and press releases. Peter is involved in the Society because the Ohio Union and Student Activities were such a huge part of his college life and those experiences have helped him in his current job by dealing with people and deadlines and learning how to compromise.
Kate Porubcansky - Former President
Kate received her Master's Degree from Ohio State in Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2003. She considers herself a native buckeye, growing up in Dayton, Ohio and having scarlet and grey baby clothes. While at Ohio State, Kate worked in the Ohio Union, specifically in the student activities office. She worked with student employees in the early stages of the comprehensive student employment program, served at the graduate co-chair of Welcome Week, and also worked with student organizations in the Source. She currently works at Otterbein College as an Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Center for Student Involvement. She was proud to be a part of the group to reform the Alumni Society and looks forward to the impact the society can have on current students and brining alumni back to the Ohio Union.
